Yoselin uit Ecuador: Mijn eerste sinterklaasfeest in Nederland
Yoselin uit Ecuador: “It was a real pleasure to spend such an important date here. It amazed me how since the arrival of the Sint, (which I had the luck to go see him when he arrived) everything turned its attention to him. From the children in the streets that wanted to see him to actually having his own “journal” each day on TV! Wonderful! I loved everything of this holiday and all the traditions that come with it like all the songs, your shoe next next to the fire place and the delicious sweets in it. It was also funny to see how many “Piets” the Sint had, he had one for every single thing. It was really nice and touching to spend such a nice evening with all the family together, cousins, uncles, everyone gathered to spend some time together. It was also new for me that with every gift there was a poem. It amazed me how the rhymes were so perfect and had to do with the gift. And some of the poems were really funny ones. But I think the most important part of this holiday to me is that it sets the begging of this holiday season. For some of us it is really hard to spend such a evening far away from home. However the warm welcome of my host family makes me feel home. I am surrounded by people who are taking care of me, expecially with Sinterklaas. For me this evening was more than only the gifts and de delicious food. It was great to spend the evening with my family here in Holland”
Alexandra uit Amerika deed een schilderworkshop in Pieterburen
started to paint. With some direction from Astrid we all painted some pretty cool back
grounds of all different colours. Then we received a tour of the lovely house while the other
students and I waited for our backgrounds to dry. After the tour, we put our apron back on
and got back to painting. We were told we could paint anything we wanted, and everyone was
very creative, from Hannie's lovely sea scene with boats, to Bladimir's 'spoon painting',
he used the spoons as paint brushes. It was a lot of fun, and we all had very nice painting
to take home. After the painting was over we all drew chores from a basket, I got to clean
all of the paint brushes and cups, which was also pretty fun with the company of my friends.
While we waited for the Pancakes to cook, we watched a very nice video of the lovely
Astrid's experience on The Dutch TV series Pop Stars. She was awesome!! We then enjoyed a
lovely dinner of pancakes, and syrup... Well most of us at least, some of the boys got
pretty creative and decided to try pancakes with ketchup, and curry sauce, EWW! It was a
lot of fun. After dinner we got to try on many fun wigs, and dress up clothing. It was great!
I have some really cool photos. I certainly enjoyed my day! It was a lovely house, with so
many fun things to do, I was sad it was over, but all good things come to an end. I hope
that many others can enjoy it for years to come!!
